Lulu Buck is an award-winning children's book author and dedicated public educator with a 27-year career committed to fostering kindness and equity in schools. A former English Language Development and World Language Senior Consultant at the Colorado Department of Education, Lulu has trained educators across 38 Colorado school districts in cultural responsiveness.

Her debut picture book, Sue's Sky (also available in Spanish as El Cielo de Susana), has earned the Mom's Choice Award Gold Seal, two Purple Dragonfly Award honorable mentions, and a 2023 Book Excellence Award Finalist designation. Her second book, Magical Golden Whistle, received the 2025 Firebird Book Award's Whimsical Wonder Award. Lulu's work has reached nearly 700 students in Uganda through a partnership with the Mwebaza Foundation, and Sue's Sky has been adopted into the international curriculum of four schools in Africa.

She has served as a coordinator for a local school district and previously held the position of English Language Development and World Language Senior Consultant at the Colorado Department of Education, where she contributed to the Standards and Instructional Support Office and served as a state trainer for cultural responsiveness, impacting 38 Colorado school districts. Lulu also taught English and Spanish for a decade in public secondary schools.

Sue's Sky, Lulu's debut picture book (also translated into Spanish as El Cielo de Susana), uses the gentle metaphor of the sky to encourage young readers to accept others' perspectives. It has earned the Mom's Choice Award Gold Seal, two Purple Dragonfly Award honorable mentions, and a 2023 Book Excellence Award Finalist designation in the Children's Inspirational/Motivational category. The Spanish edition received a bronze medal for Best Illustrations in an Educational Children's Book and an Honorable Mention for Best Illustrations Overall at the 2023 International Latino Book Awards.

Her second book, Magical Golden Whistle, is an enchanting tale of imagination, friendship, and adventure, and received the 2025 Whimsical Wonder Award and Whimsical Wonder on Every Page Award through Speak Up Talk Radio's Firebird Book Awards. In March 2027, the Aurora Symphony Orchestra will feature Magical Golden Whistle as the centerpiece of their children's concert series.

Lulu's international impact is significant: in the summer of 2023, she traveled to Uganda in partnership with the Mwebaza Foundation to teach Sue's Sky to nearly 700 students across four schools. The foundation has since adopted the book as part of its international curriculum. Lulu is also a keynote speaker, having delivered kindness keynotes at school galas and community events across Colorado.

Beyond her professional work, Lulu resides in Colorado with her two sons. She enjoys painting, playing tennis, traveling, mastering the piano, and writing.
